PUBLIC FORUM: |
The final day of the conference took place at the National Academy of Sciences and was open to the public. Key policy makers and organizational leaders were invited with the intent of informing those who could disseminate the idea of student and scientist partnerships widely and could encourage large numbers of scientists and educators to incorporate SSPs into their work. After welcoming remarks by Roger Bybee (NAS) and Margaret Cozzens (NSF), Daniel Barstow set the charge and introduced Shirley Malcom (AAAS), whose keynote address, which follows, challenges us to think in new ways. Several SSP projects were described, and three perspectivesthose of a scientist, a student, and an educatorwere shared by André Dhondt, Kimberly Telsch, and David Tucker, respectively. |
